Ancient Coinage of Lydia, Philadelphia (Philadelphia Neokaisareia)

Built by and named after Attalus II Philadelphus, the town (modern day Alasehir) was situated on the lower slopes of the Tmolus, about 28 miles SW of Sardis. In 1379 AD it was overrun by the Turks. Its oldest known coinage dates from the time of Augustus. Hardly anything remains of the ancient city.
