Browsing Roman Imperial Coins of Pescennius Niger

Emperor AD 193-194. Governor of Syria and General of the army in Asia under Commodus and Pertinax. Proclaimed emperor by the army in AD 193. Killed by the troops of Septimius Severus, after a reign of about a year.
The legends on his coins are so diverse and often garbled, so that varieties not in RIC are almost the rule, rather than the exception!. He struck coins in Caesarea, Cappadocia and in Antioch, Syria.
