Ancient Coinage of Aezanis, Phrygias

Situated on the lofty tableland in western Anatolia it was not until the 19th century that evidence of large Roman ruins in a small village 40 miles west of Kuttaia was made public. In the cell of the Temple of Zeus, an inscription in Latin and Greek celebrates the Emperor Hadrian and provided the name of the town: Aizani or Aizanoi.
