L. Torquatus. Denarius (3.97 gm). Rome, 58 BC. Head of Sibylla 
right, SIBVLLA below / L TORQVAT III VIR divided by tripod 
surmounted by amphora and two stars, all within ornamented torque. 
Crawford 411/1b. Sydenham 835a. RSC Manlia 12. Small test cut at 
1:00 on obverse. Nearly mint state. 

The exquisitely engraved head of Sibylla on this scarce type is 
arguably the most attractive in the entire Republican series, and 
the present specimen’s obverse is a product of one of the best dies.
