Roman Egypt Athene Tetradrachm of MAXIMIANUS Coin was minted for Roman Egypt, Alexandria between 286 and 287 AD, during the first reign of Maximianus, which lasted from 286-305 AD. After his abdication at Diocletian's insistence in 305, Maximianus would be declared Augustus twice more between 306 and 310 AD, before finally being put to death or committing suicide. The obverse type depicts the laureate and cuirassed bust of Maximianus facing right, with Greek legends A.K.M.OVA.MAXIMIANOS.SEB. The reverse features Athene seated left, holding Nike and long sceptre, with regnal year LB in the fields, indicating that this piece was minted in Year Two of the reign of Maximianus. Coin is struck a bit off center on a slightly irregular flan, but otherwise grades a nice VF, with clear to bold devices and legends where struck up. A nice example of the type, Milne-4813.
