     Julia Soaemias, mother of Elagabalus. Died 222 AD. Æ Sestertius
     (19.60 gm). Diademed, draped bust right / Venus seated left,
     holding apple, child at feet. RIC IV 402; Cohen 11. VF, green
     patina. Rare! 712951.

     Julia Soaemias seems to have occupied a minor role in the
     Matriarchy that ran Rome during the reign of her son Elagabalus,
     most affairs of state being dictated by her mother, the
     formidable Julia Maesa. Soaemias seems to have been something of
     a proto-feminist, organizing a separate Roman Senate for women.
