Julia Maesa AE26 of Myrina, Aeolis. Obv: IOULA MAICA CEBACTH, draped bust right. Rev: EP CTR (FOU) FREGELLANOU MYREINAI, W-N (across fields), Apollo Grynion standing facing, head left, right shoulder and left breast bare, holding patera over burning altar and laurel branch. Unpublished for Julia Maesa. Owner's reference DS-6. Notes: This magistrate's name was used on a Myrina coin struck for Elagabalus (SNG von Aulock 7707; Waddington 1343). This reverse type is known for Marcus Aurelius (BMC 43; Imhoof Griechische Münzen 248). There was a cult of Apollo based in Grynium in the territory of Myrina and the town struck a number of silver and bronze coins depicting Apollo Grynion. Contributed by Doug Spangle, April 2011.
