Carausius. AR Cast Denarius, 2.64 gr, 19.78 mm. Undetermined mint in Britain. 287-293 AD. Obv: IMP CARAVSIVS PF A, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right Rev: PAX AVG, Pax standing facing, holding cornucopiae and sceptre. RIC V-2 720 var (obv. legend). After examining the coin, Dr. T.V. Buttrey of the Fitzwilliam Museum concluded: "It is an interesting piece, cast, but cast from what? The obverse die can be paralleled; the reverse die is weird. I think it's worth some study..." Used with permission of TimeLine Originals (www.time-lines.co.uk) August 2009
