Polemo II, with Britannicus (?) A.D. 38-64.: AR drachm (16 mm, 3.20 g) Head of Polemo right. / Head of Britannicus right. RPC supl. 3838 (PLATE COIN). Ex Donovan coll. VF Burnett in RPC I identified the male on these drachms tentatively as Britannicus, the son of Claudius. This type has no identifying legend and from the known regnal dates, were struck during the period AD 55-57. Stylistically, they fit within the series which have identifiable portraits of Claudius and Nero. Polemo was installed as king by Caligula. it is quite possible that Claudius' marriage to Caligula's sister in AD 49 prompted him to begin striking these coins. Courtesy of John Jencek on vcoins
