Eckhel read the legend as ΣIΩMOΣ as a magistrate's name and attributed the coin to Maroneia, Thrace.
6411. Male figure wearing Macedonian headwear, holding two spears and the horse's bridle, standing right beside a horse. / OΣΣEΩM (sic) around a lined, quadripartite square, all within shallow incuse. 17 mm. Millingen, Ancient Coins of Greek Cities and Kings also lists this coin.
