Ancient Coinage of Thrace, Imbros

The modern fate of the Greeks on this Thracian island in the Aegaean, which they had inhabited for over 1,500 years, is shocking. Since 1961 they have been subject to massive scale persecution by the Turks: Greek education is forbidden, Greek schools closed and the cultivated areas and farmland of the island have been appropriated for the settlement of ethnic Turks from mainland Turkey. The island was made into an open prison for rapists and murderers, who were allowed to roam freely on the island to repeat their crimes amongst the locals before it was closed in 1992. By 2015, only 318 Greeks remained on the island.
Besides civic issues, it struck Provincial coins only for Augustus.
