Ancient Coinage of Pontos, Taulara


Taulara was a fortified city in the mountainous region between Kabeira and the Pontic-Armenian border. In 66 BC the city, which had storehouses for royal possessions, city fell to the Roman general, Pompey the Great. In the storehouses Pompey discovered thousands of golden cups and couches, as well as objects stolen from Queen Kleopatra V Selene, as well as a cloak said to have been worn by Alexander III.
