Neocaesarea, Pontus, AE15, semi-autonomous issue. ca. AD 184-185. 2.91 g. ETOYC AKP, Veiled and draped bust of Demeter right, grain ears before. NEOKAICAREIAC, Winged thunderbolt. Unpublished. With permission of Pecunem Gitbud & Naumann Auction 36, Lot 365, Sept. 2015. The seller wondered whether this coin could be from Philadelphia, Lydia, which used a similar legend and reverse for Tiberius (RPC 3017; Paris 957 etc.) However, Philadelphia, Lydia coins were never dated and apart from that, the spelling of the city name is different. In addition the seller gave the date as NH, but such a date was never used in Neocaesarea, the earliest known date being K Theta (Domitian) followed by AZ (A resembling lamda) and AH (Trajan).
