Pegasus Corinth Staters Athena

Back to the Wildwinds Corinth page

Fourth and Third Centuries to Circa B.C. 243.

This information covers a large class of staters with Chief Magistrate's initials or monograms (optional) plus a symbol (optional) in the field of the reverse. The reverse also often has ΣYPAKOΣIΩN around the rim (as shown below). The Syracuse staters have variously nothing, a triskeles or a "grain ear" below Pegasus as shown.

The Obverse of these Staters has an image of Pegasus and the Reverse an image of Athena wearing a Corinthian Helmet (sometimes laureate but mostly not) over a leather cap (but not always!).

Regarding the chronological sequence of these lettered coins, the dates shown may be accepted as approximately correct.
