Ptolemy XII AR Tetradrachm. obv: Diademed head of Ptolemy I right rev: PTOLEMAIOY BASILEWS, eagle walking left, L-LAMBDA (year 30) to left, PA to right, Isis' headdress at feet. Svoronos 1840. This is from Ptolemy XII's second reign, when he had recovered the kingdom by paying large bribes to Romans, which impoverished Egypt, so that the later (years 27 to 30, or 55-51 BC) issues were debased, getting as bad as 50% copper. According to Newell "as if to compensate somewhat for their poor quality, the style of this new coinage has been made more attractive, the relief higher, and the reverse marked by placing the customary head-dress of Isis at the eagle's feet.".
