BOIOTIA, Thebes. Circa 315-288 BC. Lot of two Æ. 
Both coins: Boiotian shield / Ethnic around 
ornamented trident head; concave field. Varieties: 
(a) Æ 10mm (1.34 g). Ethnic: QHBAI-WN circular. 
Head, Boeotia p. 81; BMC p. 88, 208; SNG Cop. 375. 
Very rare // (b) Æ 11mm (1.39 g). Different style, 
and ethnic: QHBA-IWN from left to right in two 
lines. Unpublished(?). Coins VF and Fine, 
respectively; (b) is overstruck on a Herakles-head 
right type. Two (2) coins in lot. ($200)

The BMC 207, pl. XVI, 2 coin (cited by Head) is 
unclear on the reverse, and may be of variety (b). 
The rarity of these types contrasts strikingly 
with abundance of the BOIWTWN bronzes which are 
very plentiful, especially in their standard (no 
letter or symbol) types.
