The obverse of this type depicts the head of the deified Alexander the Great facing right, with flowing hair and wearing the horn of Zeus Ammon. The Greek letter Theta appears behind the head, and the Greek legend for MAKEDONON appears below. The reverse features the legends AESILLAS.Q. above a large club which divides a money-chest and a quaestor's chair, all within an olive wreath. The quaestor's chair and money chest were symbolic of the authority of the quaestor, his status as moneyer, and the overall Roman authority over the province. This piece shows some very light granularity, and is a little off center on the obverse, but otherwise grades Good VF, with bold devices and legends where struck up. A very nice example of this interesting type, catalouged as Sear Greek 1463. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. MC/Visa accepted on orders of $20 or more. Member ANA, PAN.
