Description CARAVSIVS ET FRATRES SVI Carausius, Diocletian and Maximianus AE Antoninianus [Image] Struck by Carausius, 287-293AD Obv: CARAVSIVS ET FRATRES SVI , Jugate, radiate and cuirassed busts of Carausius, Diocletian and Maximianus right Rev: PAX AVGGG, Pax standing left holding branch and sceptre, S in left field, P in right field, C in exergue RIC 1 (Carausius, Diocletian and Maximian - Vol V pt.2, p.550 - Camulodunum mint) R4 Struck in 291AD and probably also late 290 and early 292 This is a fantastic and wonderful coin. It is of exceptional rarity and extremely valuable. It was struck by Carausius to, apparently, legitimise his rule, to curry favour with the 'legimiate' Emperors of the Tetrarchy and undoubtedly to reduce the likelihood that he would be attacked and killed by them and their forces. As it happened he needed to fear things closer to home than Rome as it was Allectus, his chief minister, who arranged his premature death. Sear 3571 - valued there at 3500 pounds [approx. US$6000!]) Recent sales include: CNG 42, lot 1094 est. $1500, CNG 39 lot 1687 (Victory reverse) $2500; among others. It is a very easy process. Shipping charges are expected to be about AUD$4 to USA which converts to about US$3 - High Bidder to pay for this. Insurance will be extra - if you request it (recommended). Please check with me if there is anything you are unsure about. (Estimated insurance will be around $10+AUD - in any case it will be charged at cost!!) For other International locations postage may be a bit more or less - but not a lot, so those other locations please allow for about US$4 post (again - at cost). For Australian buyers postage will be about $3-$4AUD. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Join ACM --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Image] Bidding CARAVSIVS ET FRATRES SVI-RRRRare Antoninianus (Item #69468760) Current bid $356.00 Bid increment $5.00 Minimum bid $361.00 Registration required. eBay requires registration in order to bid. Placing a bid is a binding contract in many states. Do not bid unless you intend to buy this item at the amount of your bid. Proxy bidding for all bids Please bid the maximum amount you are willing to pay for this item. Your maximum amount will be kept secret; eBay will bid on your behalf as necessary by increasing your bid by the current bid increment up until your maximum is reached. (See an example of proxy bidding). Also, in case of a tie for high bidder, earlier bids take precedence. And, keep in mind that you cannot reduce your maximum bid at a later date. Unless otherwise noted, bids are in U.S. dollars. If you have bid on this item before, note that your new bid must be greater than your previous bid. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [eBay logo] Home Listings Buyers Sellers Search Help News/Chat Site Map Thank you for using eBay!
