Description Late in his reign Aurelian (270-275) "restored" the coinage as well as he could, and that included the issue of a few (for ceremonial purposes?) of the old fashioned coppers that hadn't been seen for several years. After he died there was a period of about six months called the "interregnum" ("between the kings"-a bit of a misnomer for Rome), but I wonder if many of the coins we see of his wife, and widow - Severina might fit in this period... Could she have ruled the empire for a few months as "Augusta"? This Bronze As gives us no real clue - it shows her simply as "SEVERINA AVG". The Reverse: "IVNO REGINA SC" shows Juno standing, a peacock at her feet. I grade this a nice Very Fine over Fine; the reverse only has been "helped", that is, "smoothed". The obverse is very sharp and only a little porous. NICE!! (OK, if you must, go ahead - See the photo!)...Special Note to bidders: This lot is part of a very large collection of Roman Copper and bronze coins we have just aquired. This collection is full of rare and interesting types in collectable grades. Note that inscriptions given in parentheses "( )" are not legible on the coin but are known from other coins. "RIC" refers to: "Roman Imperial Coins". Be sure to note our other offerings. They are coded "CC" (for Coast to Coast) in the title. ....And be sure to check out our web site at: www.coastcoin.com ....Terms of Sale: We accept payment by check, money order, or Visa, Mastercard or Discover card.
