After rebelling against Gallienus, he ruled Gaul, Spain, and Britain firmly and wisely for nearly a decade. Not only was he successful in fighting back the German tribes from the Rhine frontier, but also Managed to thwart the repeated attempts of Gallienus to reclaim the lost provinces. However, in 268 AD, the usurper Laelianus rebelled against Postumus, and even though he was quickly defeated, the refusal of Postumus to allow his troops to sack Moguntiacum (Mainz), which had supported the rebel, led to his own assassination. The obverse of this type depicts the radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Postumus facing right, with legends IMP.C.M.CASS.LAT.POSTVMVS.P.F.AVG. The reverse features Fides standing front, head left, holding two standards, with legends FIDES.MILITVM. Coin is struck on a slightly irregularly shaped flan, but otherwise grades VF, with bold devices, clear legends where struck up, and a very nice portrait. A pleasing example of this very scarce denomination, minted only under Postumus and Trajan Decius. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. Visa/MC accepted for orders of $20 or more. Member ANA, PAN.
