                                Description

     This piece was minted at Milan during the reign of Gallienus, who
     ruled from 253-268 AD. He ruled jointly with his father Valerian
     from 253 until Valerian's capture by the Persians in 260.
     Gallienus presided over an empire that showed every sign of
     complete disintergration, having to deal with external
     aggressions, internal revolts, plagues, and famine. Much of the
     western portion of the empire was lost to Postumus in 259 as
     well. Given the many problems he faced, it was all that Gallienus
     could do to keep the empire from absolute collapse. Despite his
     succeeding at this, he was murdered in 268, the result of a
     conspiracy of Illyrian officers. The obverse type depicts the
     radiate and cuirassed bust of Gallienus facing right, with
     legends IMP.GALLIENVS.AVG. The reverse type features Diana
     walking right, drawing arrow from quiver and holding bow, with a
     hound at her feet, and legends DIANA.FELIX. Coin shows some
     striking weakness, but otherwise grades VF, with mostly bold
     devices and clear legends where struck up. The reverse of this
     piece is not as bright as the scanner made it appear. A nice
     example of the type, catalouged as RSC-169a. Buyer pays
