Julius Bassianus was born in 188 A.D., proclaimed Caesar at the age of 8,
then elevated to Augustus two years later as co-Emperor, first with his
father, then with his younger brother. His ambitions led him to murder his
own brother (co-Emperor Geta) when he was 24, and Geta was 21. Caracalla
met a similar fate himself only five years after that, at the age of 29. In
general, coins of Caracalla as Caesar are scarcer than those made for the
much longer period he was Augustus.
