Lot: 42   Rome. Ancient. Roman Empire. Julia
Domna. denarius. (S1870) J.Domna/empress
seated. silver. Grade:EF
'193-211 A.D. Obv.: Bust of Julia Domna
right/Rev.: empress seated left holding a
branch and scepter. The reverse is Very Fine
due to weak strike, as usual. Domna makes it
clear who she is on this coin, declaring
herself to be the mother of the emperors,
Senate and the country. She starved herself
to death following the death of her son
Caracalla. [L534385]
