            Augustus. (27 BC-14 AD). Silver denarius (3.86 gm). Spain, Ca. 17 
            BC. CAESAR AVGVSTVS, head right wearing oak wreath / DIVVS— IVLIVS 
            across field, comet with eight rays and tail, the tail on the third 
            ray from left above the legend. BMCRE 323 var. CBN 1292. Cohen 98. 
            RIC 37a. Good very fine. 

            A comet that appeared in summer 44 BC was held to signal Julius 
            Caesar’s ascension to the heavens. The memory of Caesar’s 
            deification was revived in connection with Augustus’ Saecular Games 
            of 17 BC.
