Coins from this period are notorious for their poor quality. Here, however, we actually have an example that is well struck on both sides! Of particular interest is the fact that this coin was intentionally struck in a slight cup shape known as a "scyphate". The oddly cut non-circular rim is normal for these coins. Byzantine gold issues are increasing in popularity both with collectors as well as jewelers due to the large portrait of Christ on the obverse.
