Nicephorus II, 963-969 AD, gold solidus, histamenon nomisma, (4.38g) +IhS
XGS REX REGNATIUM Facing bust of Christ, with cross nimbus having pellets
in each arm, wearing pallium and colobium, right hand raised inward in
benediction and holding book of Gospels in left. / nICHFOP' CE bASIL' AUGG
IR Facing busts of Nicephorus wearing crown and loros, and Basil II,
wearing crown and chlamys, jointly holding patriarchal cross between them.
SB 1776; DOC 1.3; BN 1; Berk 279var. Good VF, 2 minor reverse marks and a
slight wave to the flan. Slightly better quality than Sotheby's 11/98, #490
which sold for $1210.
