Estimate $1000 Sold For $850 CONSTANS II. 641-668 AD. AV Solidus (4.40 gm, 6h). Rome mint. Struck 641-647 AD. dN CONSTAN TINUS PP AVG, small, beardless facing bust, wearing crown and chlamys, holding globus cruciger / VICTORIA AVGU, cross potent on three steps; • and K in fields; G/CONOB. DOC II 10a var. (no pellet; Heraclonas); MIB III 112.1; SB 1117. EF, worn dies. ($1000) From the Malcolm W. Heckman Collection. Ex Numismatica Ars Classica "Autumn Sale" (26-27 October 1995), lot 852. See lot 1371 for the suggested attribution of solidi of this type to Heraclonas. MIB 112 appears to have the same dual portrait types as the Constantinopolitan issues - 112.1 and 112.2 for Heraclonas, 112.3 and 112.4 for Constans. Hahn, however sees the numeral G as an indictional date and Indiction 3 (644/5 AD) would not work for Heraclonas. Copyright © CNG 2002 Developed by DataArt 2002
