Description Barry & Darling Ancient Coins http://www.ancient-times.com [Image] Republic Sergia 1 Denarius Attribution: Moneyer M. Sergius Silus (Sergia 1), minted c. 116 - 115 BC Obverse : Head of Roma right, 'EX SC' before, 'ROMA' and '*' behind. Reverse : 'M. SERGI' below horseman galloping left, holding sword and head of a barbarian. 'Q' below horses leg, 'SILVS' in exergue. Grade : aF/aF Notes : This coin has decent detail, but rough surfaces. The reverse is interesting with its depiction of a galloping horseman waving the severed head of a barbarian. The reverse actually commemorates the grandfather of Silus who was noted for his bravery in the second Punic War. During that conflict, it was said he lost one arm and had it replaced with one made of iron. GOOD LUCK! Click here to view our other auction listings. Have a Question?
