Check the enlarged picture of the reverse below. The coin has good medium silver surfaces with luster in the protected areas. Obverse is pretty well centered. The reverse is almost perfectly centered. Soft strike on obverse high points, slight wear on reverse high points. Reverse of coin is better than picture, obverse of coin not as good as picture. This is a hard to find coin. Going back to CNG 43, September 1997, I only found 1 example (the last 17 auction catalogs, excluding CNG 47 which my wife misplaced). Compare this coin to Triton III, lot 910, where an EF was estimated at $300 and sold for $475 + 71.25 = $546.25. The coin at auction has a better centered reverse with a better front paw and tail detail than the Triton III example. The Triton III example has a better obverse, but still has some striking weakness on the high points. The four teats on the coin at auction have better nipples than the Triton example (Sorry, just being descriptive). This is a popular coin because of the reverse. The most current price information is found in Sear Roman Coins and their Values, Millennium Edition, where it is valued at $128 in VF and $360 in EF. This coin is an excellent example of the reverse type. Size: 3.60 grams; die axis = 5.0; flan 2.0 mm thick; 18 mm in diameter.
