                        ROMAN REPUBLIC. L. Rubrius Dossenus. 87 BC. Silver 
                        quinarius (1.68 gm). Head of Neptune right trident over 
                        shoulder, DOSSEN behind / Victory, half nude, head 
                        thrown back, walking right, holding over shoulder palm 
                        branch to which three wreaths are attached; before her, 
                        altar bearing omphalos around which snake is coiled; 
                        behind her, L. RVBRI. Crawford 348/4. Sydenham 708. 
                        Babelon Rubria 4. Very fine 

                        Ex Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, gift of Malcolm Storer. 

                        Interesting reverse type, inadequately described in 
                        BMCRR, Sydenham, and Crawford. The same altar with 
                        omphalos and snake separates the two faces of Janus on 
                        the obverse of an as struck by the same moneyer, 
                        Crawford 348/5, pl. xlvi.
