                                Description

     This piece was minted circa 79 BC under the authority of the
     moneyer C.Naevius Balbus. The obverse type depicts the diademed
     head of Venus facing right, letter below chin, with SC behind.
     The reverse features Victory in triga right, with legend
     C.NAE.BALB. in the exergue. The edge of the piece is serrated,
     which was used as a safeguard against the manufacture of fouree
     coins. Coin shows reddish patina on both sides, and is struck on
     a smallish flan, but otherwise grades F, with clear devices and
     most of the reverse legend visible where struck up. A very decent
     example of the type, catalouged as Naevia 6. Buyer pays
     postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA
