Roman Imperatorial, Silver Denarius, Rome Mint Rare Obverse: Bare small head of the praetor L. Livineius Regulus right, border of dots; No legend, border of dots. Reverse: Modius between two corn ears; L.LIVINEIVS above, REGVLVS in exergue, border of dots. Be Sure to click on hyperlinks for more information! Condition: EF, Coin is better than picture. The coin has excellent medium dark silver surfaces with a nice sheen. Portrait is a bit lighter, especially in the protected areas around it. Centering is off, but loses very little. Nice strike and very good detail except for a bit of a flat strike on above the ear corresponding with the bottom of the modius on the reverse. Slight scuff on the shoulder which does not detract. This is a hard to find Imperatorial period coin. The most current price information is found in Sear Roman Coins and their Values, Millennium Edition, where it is valued at $224 in VF and $600 in EF. In Sear The History and Coinage of the Roman Imperators it is valued at $600 in EF. This is a pleasant, attractive coin for this issue with a charismatic portrait of a praetor.
