  behind / L. HOSTILIVS SASERNA, Diana of Ephesus standing facing with stag in right
  hand, spear in left. Crawford 448/3; Sear, CRI 19; Sydenham 953; Hostilia 4. Nice VF,
  slight flan flaw on lower right of obverse. Estimate $300.



  This coin refers to the seige and capture of the Gallic city of Massilia by Caesar's
  forces in 48 BC: The obverse is an allusion to the action in Gaul, and the reverse
  depicts the diety that was revered by the inhabitants of Massilia.
