Description This piece was minted circa 115-114 BC, under the authority of the moneyer M.Cipius M.f. The obverse type depicts the head of Roma facing right, with M.CIPI.M.F. before, and X behind. The reverse type features Victory in biga right, rudder below horses, ROMA in exergue. This moneyer has been identified with a certain Cipius, who gave rise to the proverb 'Non omnibus dormio', and who was called "the snorer" because he pretended to be asleep in order to facilitate his wife's acts of adultery. Coin shows a couple of obverse scratches, and is a bit off center on the reverse, but otherwise grades AVF, with clear to bold devices and clear legends where struck up. A nice example of the type, catalouged as Cipia 1. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. MC/Visa accepted for orders over $20. For more ancients, please visit my WWW site at www.philly.infi.net/~mdgeary/ .
