                                L. Cassius Longinus. 60 BC. AR Denarius (3.93 
                                gm). Draped and veiled bust of Vesta right; 
                                kylix behind, I before / Togate male figure 
                                standing left, dropping tablet inscribed V into 
                                cista; LONGIN. III. V behind. Crawford 413/1; 
                                Sydenham 935; Cassia 10. EF, obverse slightly 
                                off center. ($100)
                                L. Cassius Longinus was the younger brother of 
                                C. Cassius, one of the murderers of Julius 
                                Caesar. The tablet marked V was used in Rome to 
                                cast a favorable vote on legislation; taken in 
                                conjunction with the head of Vesta on the 
                                obverse, this coin refers to the law of 113 
                                which set up a special commission, presided over 
                                by L. Cassius Longinus Ravilla, for the trial of 
                                three delinquent Vestal Virgins.
