Description This piece was minted circa 46 BC under the authority of the moneyer T. Carisius. The obverse type depicts the head of Roma right, with ornate crest and legend ROMA behind. The reverse features emblems of power, a cornucopiae on celestial globe between sceptre and rudder. The legend for this type reads T.CARISI., and the entire design is enclosed within a wreath. This is one of a series of types connected with the triumphs of Julius Caesar and the traditions of his family. The symbols of power are undoubtedly meant to refer to the vast power that Caesar had acquired by 46 BC. Coin is a bit off center, especially on the reverse, but otherwise grades F+, with mostly clear devices and full reverse legend. A nice example of this interesting and scarcer type, catalouged as Carisia 4. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. MC/Visa accepted for orders over $20. For more ancients, please visit my WWW site at www.philly.infi.net/~mdgeary/ .
