Nice Roman Republic Calpurnia 11 AR Denarius

     This piece was minted circa 90 BC under the authority of the
     moneyer L. Calpurnius Piso Frugi. The obverse type depicts the
     laureate head of Apollo right, symbol behind. The reverse
     features a horseman galloping right, holding palm, with legend
     L.PISO.FRVGI. and letter below. This type refers to the Ludi
     Apollinares, established in 212 BC. The annual celebration of
     these games was proposed by the praetor L.Calpurnius Piso, an
     ancestor of the moneyer.
