Description This piece was minted at Milan or Antioch during the short reign of Volusian, who was the son of Trebonianus Gallus. He was given the rank of Caesar at the time of his father's accession in 251, and was created Augustus later that same year on the death of Hostilian. They ruled jointly until their murders in 253. The obverse of this type depicts the radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Volusian facing right, with legends IMP.C.C.VIB.VOLVSIANVS.AVG. Four pellets appear beneath the bust. The reverse features Victory running left, holding wreath and palm, with legends VICTORIA.AVG., and four pellets in the exergue. Coin shows porous surfaces, but otherwise grades F/F+, with clear devices and legends all around. A very decent example of the scarcer silver coinage of Volusian, catalouged as RSC-128a. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. Visa/MC now accepted for purchases over $20.
