               Caligula as, a lovely Pertinax denarius
               struck at the Alexandrian mint, and several
               exceptional and interesting Greek coins. All
               have what we believe to be moderate
               opening-bids and each is illustrated with
               detailed color photos.

(Gaul). silver denarius (19mm). (RIC 56; RSC

A VITELLIVS IMP GERMAN, laureate head of
Vitellius facing right, globe at point of
bust / I O M MAX CAPITOLINVS, Jupiter,
holding Victory and sceptre, seated lo left
in the Capitoline temple of two columns.

During the last days of the reign of
Vitellius the temple depicted on this coin
was burned to the ground killing the
city-prefect Sabinus (brother of Vespasian)
and the future emperor Domitian only
narrowly escaped the same fate.
