Some flatness in reverse strike of emperor. Dark brown and green patina. Sharp portrait of the aged general. Minimal wear. Overall Near Extra Fine for detail and preservation. RIC rated Scarce, but rare this nice. Modern historians generally believe that Vetranio’s “usurpation" was a ruse to occupy the real usurper, Magnentius, while Constantius II moved his army westward. This view is substantiated by Vetranio's pardon by Constantius, who was not renowned for clemency, and his death of old age. The Constantinian reverse legend of this coin could also be said to support this thesis. This coin’s reverse displays an historic reference to Constantine I’s reported dream before the battle of the Milvian Bridge, “By this sign shalt thou conquer.” 492369 We accept personal checks, credit cards, money orders, or PayPal.
