     Koln287 – Greek Imperial

     Vespasian, Emperor 69 – 79 AD, AE Diobol, Alexandria Mint, Year 3
     (70/71 AD), 25mm, 10.86gms, Obv: Laur bust right, Rev: Bust of
     Isis right, L and Gamma in field to right, Koln 287, Very Fine,
     nice dark brown patina with green highlights, good bust detail
     and a lot of eye appeal. A very nice example of this scarce issue
     from Nilus Coins.

     Isis was an ancient Egyptian deity, wife of Osiris. She was
     adopted into the Alexandran pantheon as the wife of the
     Ptolemy-created Sarapis, who was considered to have the
     attributes of both gods Osiris and Apis (from whom his name was
     derived). Would make a nice set with the other diobol lot I am
     auctioning with the bust of Sarapis.
