A.D. 69 - 79

AR Denarius

 

You are invited to bid on a denarius of VESPASIAN, the son of a businessman and tax collector. He spent much of his reign rebuilding the wreck that was left of Rome following the troubles of 69 and restoring the Roman economy. He also expanded the Empire's borders in Britain and granted citizenship to the inhabitants of vast areas under Roman control.

Obverse: 
 IMPCAESVESPAVGPMCOSIIIICEN - Laureate head right.
 
Reverse: 
 SALVSAVG - Salus seated left, holding patera.
 
Notes: 
 RIC 57, C 432  Denarius.  Struck circa A.D. 73 (Rome).  18.5 mm.  2.9 grams.   Decent Fine coin marred by scratches, particularly reverse. Good metal.  Authenticity is guaranteed for life.
