Struck at Rome, 69-70 A.D., VF+, Hendin/GBC 759, RCV 2296, RIC 15, RSC 226, (3.2 gm.). In 67 A.D., Nero sent the future Emperor, Vespasian, to conduct the war against the Jewish rebels. Vespasian was still at it when Nero was overthrown and replaced by Galba in 68 A.D. And Vespasian was still at it when Galba was replaced by Otho in January 69, who was in turn replaced by Vitellius in April. But Vespasian's troops hailed him as Emperor in July, and so he left his son Titus in charge when he departed for Rome. Titus oversaw the final battle, and captured Jerusalem in 70, with his father Vespasian on the throne in Rome, while the rebels at Masada held out. After such a struggle, Vespasian and his sons felt they had a lot to celebrate, and issued their Judaea Capta coin series.
