Amphilochos is said to be the founder of Mallos. He and his brother Mopsus ruled Mallos alternately. Mopsus was first. But then it came to a deadly duel in which both were killed. After their death temples were built to celebrate them. The oracle of Mallos was said to be better than that of Delphi! Under Severus Alexander Mallos became a Roman Colonia, hence the Latin inscriptions. Contributed by Hans-Joachim, August, 2005.
