Valentinian I, Æ28 Double Majorina, D N VALENTINIANVS P F AVG, diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Valentinian, facing right. / RESTITVTOR REIPVBLICAE, CONSPA (for the Constantinople mint) in the exergue. Valentinian shown standing facing, holding a labarum and Victoria. By this late date for the Western Roman Empire, bronze coins of this large size were seldom struck. VF+, nice broad flan, very rare so nice! Vagi/CHRE 3492, Sear/RCV 4100, RIC 14a, (8.8 gm.).

Flavius Valentinianus was the last man to found a dynasty, one that ruled the Roman Empire for 91 years. He was a military commander under Julian II, but also a Christian, and was banished to Egypt in 362 for his beliefs. Fortunately, Jovian succeeded Julian, and restored Valentinian to command, from which he was acclaimed as Augustus when Jovian was found dead in bed. Valentinian split the Empire in two for good, by appointing his brother Valens to rule in the East. He spent most of his time fighting enemy invaders, and died of an apoplectic fit in 375, during an interview with a group of them.

   A:  It definitely is 28mm in diameter. I do not use FedEx. I will not sell it for less, because it is fairly priced for the grade and overall condition.
