Cappadocia, Caesarea Drachm of TRAJAN $59.00 Dec-11-01 This piece was minted for Roman Cappadocia, Caesarea, during the reign of Trajan, who ruled from 98-117 AD. The empire reached its greatest geographic extent under Trajan, the direct result of his many military triumphs. The obverse of this type depicts the laureate head of Trajan facing right, slight drapery on far shoulder, with Greek legends for AVTOK.KAIS.NER.TRAIANOS.SEB.GERM.DAK. around. The reverse type features a half-length female bust facing left, holding a wand, with Greek legends for DIMARX.E.X.VPATO.B. Coin shows lightly granular surfaces, but otherwise grades Good VF, with clear to bold devices and legends all around. A choice example of this scarcer provincial type, much more attractive in hand than in the scan!
