left, aegis at shoulder / SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI, 
Trajan on horseback right, trampling and 
spearing a fallen Dacian; S C in ex. RIC II -; 
BMCRE -; Banti 216/1 (same dies). Fine, somewhat 
uneven green and red patina. Rare. ($300)
Only two sestertii of this type are recorded by 
Banti with this bust treatment. Banti describes 
the type as having a globe at the point of the 
bust, but on this clearer example the device can 
be seen to be an aegis.
