             XP - Trajan - Radiate Head of Sol Denarius - Scarce

* Trajan, 98-117 AD, as Augustus - AR Denarius,
  3.08g.
* Obv: IMP CAES NER TRAIAN OPTIM AVG GER DAC
  PARTHICO; Laureate, draped, right facing bust of
  Trajan.
* Rev: PM TR P COS VI PP SPQR; Radiate, draped, right
  facing bust of Sol.
* RIC II #342, RSC #267, Cohen #267 (6 Fr.), Unlisted
  in Sear
* An interesting and unusual type struck during the
  period 114-117 AD. The radiate head of Sol was a
  theme familiar to the masses and used by many
  emperors to associate themselves with the positive
  attributes of Sol. To give a general indication of
  the scarcity of this coin; of the 5,205 denarii of
  Trajan accounted for in the Reka-Devnia horde, only
  3 of this type were found. This coin has an natural
  dark toning that creates an interesting contrast.
  The few times I have seen this coin available, it
  was typically estimated at over $200. This nice
  example should be in your collection.
