The eleventh of the so-called Twelve Caesars, Titus Flavius Vespasianus, was Vespasian's eldest son, and is still remembered for his ruthless victory over the Jews in 70 A.D., especially for the destruction of the great Temple in Jerusalem. Though Emperor only a short time, he saw the completion of the Colosseum, and helped Rome recover from a disastrous fire, a devastating plague, and the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, which destroyed the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Since Titus was Emperor only a short time, most coins minted during his reign are scarce.
