Roman AE 4 of THEODOSIUS II $24.00 Dec-06-01 Description Coin was minted at Heraclea during the reign of Theodosius II, who ruled from 402-450 AD. The son of Arcadius and Eudoxia, Theodosius II was raised to Augustus at the age of nine months, in January of 402. The obverse of this piece depicts the pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Theodosius II facing right, with legends D.N.THEODOSIVS.P.F.AVG. The anepigraphic reverse type features a cross within a wreath, with mint/oficina mark SMHA in the exergue. Coin is struck on an irregularly shaped flan, but otherwise grades F for the type, with clear devices and partial legends visible where struck up. A nice example of this scarcer type, catalogued as RIC X 442.
